Haines City – On Wednesday, April 27, representatives from the Compassionate Hearts United Foundation (CHUF) attended the 2022 Haines City High School Award Ceremony to present the “Edwin Steve Memorial” Scholarship to a deserving student. During the ceremony, CHUF’s Founder and President, Marielys Camacho-Reyes presented the award to high school senior Sanjana Patel. Sanjana was selected to receive the scholarship by CHUF’s board of directors based on her academic accomplishments as well as a terrific essay she wrote on why is important to have compassion not only for others but also for ourselves.
The “Edwin Steve Memorial” Scholarship honors high school seniors who are planning on pursuing a college degree in the State of Florida or in Puerto Rico. The scholarship was established in memory of Edwin S. Camacho-Reyes, brother of CHUF’s Founder and President. The recipient of the Edwin Steve Scholarship receives $1,000 to go toward their college tuition. This scholarship has been awarded every year since 2020.
