Cortez, Fla. (4/20/2022) – The Florida Maritime Museum (FMM) is pleased to partner with Rowlett Academies for Arts and Communication to host “Hands-On Habits,” a FREE outdoor learning event that is offered in conjunction with Suncoast Remake Learning Days. “Hands-On Habits” will take place on FMM grounds on Saturday, May 7, from 10AM – 1PM.
“Hands-On Habits” will feature students from Rowlett Academies Lighthouse Team and Student Council teaching the basics of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People® to participating families through fun, interactive activities. This engaging event is open to the public and registration is not required.
Parking is available for free at the F.I.S.H Preserve field, adjacent to FMM grounds. Guests will take a short walk past the Cortez Cultural Center and over the foot bridge to the event. Suncoast Remake Learning Days is an exciting, 10-day regional festival for families and children that celebrates the joy of learning together. From Friday, April 29, 2022, through Sunday, May 8, 2022, over 140 FREE events in Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties will be held as part of Suncoast Remake Learning Days.

ABOUT THE FLORIDA MARITIME MUSEUM
Serving the public since 2007, the museum’s mission is to collect, preserve and share traditional knowledge, cultural artifacts and personal stories specific to Florida’s fishing and maritime heritage. The Florida Maritime Museum is a part of the Manatee County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Historical Resources Department, with additional support from the Friends of the Florida Maritime Museum. Situated on the Cortez Nature Preserve, FMM grounds were purchased with funds from the Florida Communities Trust Preservation 2000 Program and the Manatee County Board of County Commission. Located in the 1912 schoolhouse in the historic fishing village of Cortez, the museum offers a snapshot of old Florida through a collection of informative exhibits, educational programs, community events, and research materials.

Rowlett Elementary Academy has been proudly serving the families of Manatee County (and beyond) as a free-public charter school since 2014 and before that as a public elementary school.
