Mermaids have been drawing adventure seekers, celebrities, travelers, and locals to Weeki Wachee Springs for over seven decades. Hernando County, Florida, has played host to the highly successful Florida Mermaid Trail since 2000 inviting visitors to seek out hidden mermaids throughout downtown Brooksville. This year, in honor of the 75th anniversary of Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville Main Street, and Hernando County Arts Council have partnered to launch the brand new art installment “Destination Mermaids: The Tail Trail”. These beautiful life-sized mermaids will each be commissioned by artists and unveiled at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park 75th Anniversary event on October 13, 2022. After the event, the mermaid statues will be permanently placed in locations throughout Hernando County.
