Top 4 Roofing Materials to Consider for Your Residence

April 12, 2022 by Post

Our home is what protects us throughout, and if we carefully speculate, then the house’s roof is the actual protective gear. When this roof starts leaking or shows signs of damage, you cannot afford to waste any time and instead get it repaired. Roof repairing is certainly not among the most exciting home renovation projects and there is no denying that the repair work will lead to a lot of noise for a few days. However, residential roof repair is a must and here, we will be discussing the top roofing materials that can be used if your roof needs a complete replacement.

  1. Rolled Roofing

Rolled roofing material is quite popular and it is primarily suitable for residential roofs with a low slope. Rolled roofing is widely used in buildings like sheds and shops and such other utilitarian structures. It comprises very long rolls of integrated asphalt and other materials and all these are topped with granules of mineral. Each of the rolls is about 3 feet wide and covers about hundred square feet of roofing. Rolled roofing material is comparatively cheaper than others and offers an easy and quick way of covering a sloped-roof building.

  • Built- Up Roofing

Referred to as BUR, built-up roofing material is suitable for flat roofs or low pitch roofs. BUR is also one of the oldest options and they are constructed using several layers of roofing impregnated with asphalt that is applied hot. The felt is then applied in overlapping layers and through this, a barrier is formed. Finally, a layer of crushed stone is embedded in tar right over the top. The result is an impenetrable and very durable roof. A properly installed BUR roof can last as long as 20 to 30 years.

  • Membrane Roofing

Membrane roofing material is again a good choice for flat or very low pitch roofs. There can be several same types, but the primary ones are Neoprene, PVC, and EPDM. Out of these, EPDM is an ideal one and it is basically a synthetic roofing material, also referred to as ‘rubber roofing’. Much like the asphalt roofing, it effectively limits the number of seams through which water can infiltrate. The lifespan is about 25 to 30 years.

  • Standing Seam Metal Roofing

Now, this is the most common type of metal roof. It is named so because the steel or the aluminum roofing panels meet in raised seams to interlock and keep the moisture out. These roofs are extremely popular and useful in regions with heavy snowfall. This roofing material is also fully fireproof and hence, much needed in areas where there is an evident danger of wild fires. Metal roofs are durable and completely recyclable even when they finally wear out. The installation, though, is a bit complex and requires the skills of roofing experts.

Many companies out there can guide you in choosing the suitable material for your roof. So, your knowledge and the services related to residential roof repair from BA Roofing or any other in your locality can be indispensable.
