TAMPA, FLORIDA, April 2022: Tampa-based multimedia art collective Crab Devil is thrilled to announce they have been approved for the City of Tampa’s Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) Façade Grant for the East Tampa CRA. Crab Devil intends to use the funds primarily to construct awnings for the main building at 3800 N Nebraska Ave. Funds will also go towards landscaping and hardscaping on the campus.
“We are pleased to have been awarded this grant from the East Tampa CRA and are grateful for the community support,” comments Janine Awai, Crab Reckoner. “The economic development of the Nebraska corridor and the positive impact that the Crab Devil campus will have on the arts and culture of the neighborhood is our ultimate goal. We’re building a place that will add value to Ybor Heights. The community’s investment in us is truly appreciated.”
The CRA Façade Improvement Program provides property owners with grant funds to improve the appearance of their properties in designated areas. These improvements will help the multi-disciplinary art collective contribute to the beauty of the Ybor Heights neighborhood and provide respite from the warm Florida weather.
“We are honored to have this opportunity to join the Ybor Heights community, but we still have more people to reach. This grant will help us do that by opening other avenues of outreach so that we may deepen our connection to Tampa and this neighborhood in particular,” says Kelli LeMieux, Secretary of Crab Devil.
The Crab Devil campus will provide a new venue for creative expression and community building in the heart of Tampa. The East Tampa CRA, designated as an “Opportunity Zone” by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, is incentivized for job creation, small businesses, and real estate to provide equitable opportunities and stimulate return investment back to the established population.
