100 Women Who Care of Greater Sarasota Awards Family Promise of South Sarasota $25,100 for Pathways Home Project
Venice, FL – March 24, 2022 – Family Promise of South Sarasota County (FPSSC) is pleased to have received $20,100 from 100 Women Who Care of Greater Sarasota with a matching grant of $5,000 from a foundation for a total of $25,100. FPSSC received these funds as part of their capital campaign to purchase 10 houses in Venice, Florida, to utilize as transitional affordable housing for families in South Sarasota County experiencing homelessness.
Jennifer Fagenbaum, Executive Director of Family Promise of South Sarasota County stated, “With the help of this donation from 100 Women Who Care of Greater Sarasota, Family Promise will be able to continue its mission to provide housing support to children and their families in South Sarasota County. Funding, such as this generous donation, is imperative at this time as the number of rentals on the market are vastly reduced making it impossible for a lot of families to find housing and stay housed without some assistance.”
There are over 450 children in South Sarasota County schools who have been identified as homeless. Children experiencing housing instability have five times higher risk for developmental challenges and poor health and functioning. They are also five times more likely to miss school, nine times more likely to repeat a grade, and four times more likely to not graduate. In 2021, Family Promise of South Sarasota County helped 283 families with a total of 432 children in need.
