
SARASOTA, Fla. (March 22, 2022) – The Evelyn M. Duvall Family Studies Initiative for social workers, family counseling professionals and educators returns to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus on Saturday with renowned child welfare advocate Jerry Milner as the keynote speaker. Milner, director of the Family Integrity and Justice Works at Public Knowledge, will headline a dynamic all-day program that also includes Florida Department of Health Community/Child Welfare Advocate Nathan Scott III, USF Professor of Social Work Chris Groeber and a panel of local community leaders. The conference will be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Selby Auditorium on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus, 8350 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.Registration is free. Milner, a longtime child welfare advocate, is responsible for co-leading efforts to assist jurisdictions in transforming existing child welfare systems into approaches that strengthen and support families to care for their children in safe and healthy ways. He holds a Doctor of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama and has worked at all levels of child welfare for several decades. The Duvall Initiative is named for Evelyn Duvall, a former USF faculty member and longtime benefactor of social work programs.
