The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods offers on-demand and in-person lectures from the Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning
SARASOTA, Fla. (March 21, 2022) — The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, an independent and assisted living community in Sarasota, is bringing a beloved local lecture series to residents. The community, which places a strong emphasis on lifetime learning and intellectual well-being, is now streaming lectures from the Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning (SILL) through a video on-demand subscription.
SILL is a non-profit organization that offers an expert lecture series to provide information on and discussion of the arts and contemporary global issues. Topics range from U.S. policy in the Middle East to the transition to clean, renewable energy. The organization also hosts Music Monday, which features an assortment of local musicians from a variety of disciplines.
“Our residents are eager to learn and engage in the world around them, and these lectures provide them with the means to learn from experts in their respective field,” said Michelle Sayre, Community Life Director at The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods. “We’re thrilled to offer these lectures in-house through SILL’s video on-demand subscription. This is just one more way our residents can attend lectures and engage their minds.”
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, SILL hosted lectures in-person in Sarasota, Venice, Lakewood Ranch, and Long Boat Key. The on-demand option was added during the 2021 season – which runs from January to March each year. Given the success of the on-demand subscriptions, the organization offered a combination of live and streamed lectures during the 2022 program year.
“Prior to the pandemic, we had a large group of residents who would attend these lectures each month,” said Sayre. “Because they love them so much, we were thrilled when SILL began offering the on-demand option. It’s such a valuable resource in our community and we are happy to support them year after year.”
For residents who are interested in attending SILL lectures and Music Mondays in-person, The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods arranges transportation and ticketing. The community also offers classes through Watermark University. Through Watermark University, residents can attend and even teach classes that showcase their passions and engage their minds – from art to exercise to the migration of sea turtles.
