Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund of Tampa Bay unites local support with global response,
including Community Foundation movement in Ukraine
Clearwater, FL – Pinellas Community Foundation (PCF) announces the launch of the Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund of Tampa Bay, providing a trusted place for the community to make donations to assist Ukrainians with their unprecedented and growing humanitarian needs arising from the unrelenting invasion by Russia.
Pinellas Community Foundation has received multiple requests about how to donate funds to support the Ukrainian people. In creating this fund, PCF is leveraging its experience in vetting and supporting relief efforts after disasters like hurricanes and the pandemic. While those events are different from war, principles of coordination and collaboration are the bedrock of the mission and work of the foundation in the aftermath of a disaster.
The Ukraine Humanitarian Relief Fund of Tampa Bay provides a way that our local community can make donations supporting critical human needs arising from the conflict in Ukraine. PCF is connected through various organizations to respond to the ever-changing philanthropic and humanitarian landscape, including the Community Foundations Ukraine, a network of foundations across Ukraine that has on-the-ground knowledge about the country’s humanitarian needs. (More info:National Network for the Development of Local Philanthropy/Community Foundations Ukraine).
“Our goal is to provide a trusted way for Tampa Bay donors who are asking us how they can make monetary contributions to help the Ukrainian people who are suffering so greatly,” said Myriam Irizarry, Chairwoman of the PCF Board of Governors.
PCF is also staying connected to philanthropic and humanitarian coalitions ensuring local contributions can be united with, and supportive of, alliances with the experience to carry out the most robust humanitarian response to this crisis. Such alliances include trusted partners like the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Airlink that are already responding to the crisis.
Local resident helps provide motivation for support
Many local donors have been in contact with Pinellas Community Foundation to share their own knowledge of the growing humanitarian needs based on their experience in Ukraine, including a Sarasota resident from Poland who arranged for Ukrainian refugees to use her family home as a shelter coordinated by her friends still living in Poland.
