This free, in-person series explores Florida divorce law, how to claim financial power, and ways to change the emotional dynamic with a divorce.
(March 2, 2022) The Women’s Resource Center presents Divorce 101, a free, three-part workshop series that explores Florida divorce law, how to claim financial power, and ways to change the emotional dynamic with a divorce. The series launches on March 16, 6-7:30 p.m., with “Emotional Workshop” with board-certified divorcecoach, Kim Boyd; and continues March 23, 6-8 p.m., with “Legal Workshop” with Chris Florand, a certified family and civil court mediator; and concludes on March 30, 6-7:30 p.m., with “Financial Workshop” with Laura Mattia, PH.D., MBA, CFP, a financial advisor, educator, and author. This in-person series is at the Women’s Resource Center Sarasota, 340 S Tuttle Ave, Sarasota. Participants can attend one or all of the sessions. To register, visit mywrc.org/divorce101. - Emotional Workshop: March 16, 6-7:30 p.m.: The emotions of divorce include why communication can break down, how emotions can negatively impact communication and decision making, and ways you can change the dynamics of your divorce for yourself, your children, and soon-to-be-ex. The speaker is Kim Boyd, a board-certified divorce coach with additional training in pre-mediation and high conflict divorce coaching. She is passionate about helping women navigate the stress of the divorce process with confidence, clarity, and grace. Boyd uses her training, along with her experience as a 30-year senior marketing executive, mother, and survivor of her own divorce, to help women sort through their emotions, get clear on their goals and priorities, and create a conflict-free zone for their children.
- Legal Workshop: March 23, 6-8 p.m.: This workshop covers Florida divorce law and what must be decided in divorce, including the parenting plan, equitable distribution of debts and assets, alimony, and child support. The speaker is Chris Florand, a certified family and civil court mediator. Florand’s educational background is in psychology and criminology. She is certified with the Florida Supreme Court in both family and civil mediation and has served as a mediator for 10 years. She recently became a qualified Florida Supreme Court Arbitrator.
- Financial Workshop: March 30, 6-7:30 p.m.: This workshop explores financial decisions that need to be made and how to claim your financial power. The speaker is Laura Mattia, PH.D., MBA, CFP, a financial advisor, educator, and author. Dr. Mattia launched WRC’s Women’s Money Empowerment Program and is the author of “Gender on Wall Street: Uncovering Opportunities for Women in Financial Services.” Her academic research, article publications and conference appearances have earned her industry recognition as a financial thought leader and women’s advocate.
