Venice, FL – March 1, 2022– Family Promise of South Sarasota County (FPSSC) is pleased to have received $5,000 from The Venice Golf and Country Club Foundation. FPSSC received these funds to provide emergency funds to help families through a crisis period, covering things such as emergency shelter, gas cards or bus passes to get to work, short-term daycare needs, work supplies or clothing, and other emergency assistance.
Jennifer Fagenbaum, Executive Director of Family Promise of South Sarasota County stated, “With the help of this grant from Venice Golf and Country Club Foundation, Family Promise will be able to continue its mission to provide housing support to children and their families in South Sarasota County. We are seeing a rise in the need for emergency shelter and services. Funding, such as the VGCC Foundation’s grant, is imperative at this time as the number of rentals on the market are vastly reduced making it impossible for a lot of families to make ends meet and stay housed without some assistance.”
There are over 450 children in South Sarasota County schools who have been identified as homeless. Children experiencing housing instability have five times higher risk for developmental challenges and poor health and functioning. They are also five times more likely to miss school, nine times more likely to repeat a grade, and four times more likely to not graduate. In 2021, Family Promise of South Sarasota County helped 283 families with a total of 432 children in need.
