WHAT: The Dunedin Solid Waste & Recycling trucks will be parking at Achieva Credit Union’s headquarters for the 8th Annual Shredfest on Saturday, February 26th from 8 a.m. to noon.
The event provides the public the opportunity to securely shred and recycle up to five banker boxes of old documentation free of charge. Over the previous seven years of the Shredrest event, Achieva has helped to shred more than 473,000 pounds of paper documentation.
Shredding is an effective way to destroy paper documentation containing sensitive personal information that identity thieves could utilize. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and many experts recommend shredding these types of documents periodically:
o Credit card and utility bills should be shredded immediately
o Sales receipts, unless related to taxes, warranties or insurance should also be shredded as quickly as possible
o Bank statements, pay stubs and medical bills (unless you have an unresolved insurance dispute) should be shredded once a year
o Tax records are recommended to be held for seven years before shredding in case of an audit
Event participants are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times and masks are recommended. In lieu of service charges, participants are asked to make a donation to benefit the Achieva Foundation which supports the enrichment of classrooms and communities in the areas Achieva Credit Union serves.
Additional Shredfest events will be hosted later this year at Pinellas Technical College sites and posted on the Acheiva website – https://www.achievacu.com/Events.
