February 17, 2022 by Post

Are you someone who loves dogs? Do you want a dog as a pet but don’t have the time to take them on walks every day? if this sounds like you, this article will provide a list of the best low-maintenance dogs that are perfect for you! These dog breeds need much less grooming, exercise, and training. All these dogs need and want is love. These dogs require very minimal maintenance and they make excellent pets for those who do not have the time to be as hands-on. Life can occupy a lot of our time however, that shouldn’t be a reason to not have a furry companion.

Goldendoodle

Also known as the Groodle, a Goldendoodle is a breed that is a mix of a poodle and a golden retriever. These dogs first started being widely bred in the 1990’s and originated in New Zealand but you will also find them very popular in America. Today, you can get your own premier home-raised Goldendoodle puppy at popular breeders like ABCs Puppy Zs. Their lifespan is roughly 10-15 years and their temperament is one of intelligence, high energy and they are very friendly dogs. They are also trainable so you won’t struggle much with this breed. Their high energy levels require that they get around two hours of exercise per day and because they are a furry breed, you will need to groom and clip regularly. Luckily they are a non- to light shedder breed so brushing every few weeks will be sufficient. If you are someone who works full-time and is busy, the Goldendoodle will make a great pet who can be alone at home for up to 6 hours at a time.

Bullmastiff

The bullmastiff is a large breed of domestic dog, has a solid build, and has a short muzzle. This breed belongs to the mastiff family and was initially developed in the 19th century in the UK by gamekeepers to guard estates. Bullmastiffs are essentially a cross between the English mastiff and the old English bulldog which is now an extinct breed.  Their lifespan is 8-10 years and they have  a temperament that is powerful, loyal, reliable, protective, devoted, loving, calm, reserved, and docile to name a few. These dogs tend to be stubborn and generally like doing things their way however if you start early, they respond well to consistent obedience training. They will also need about 2 hours of exercise per day and with regards to grooming, bullmastiffs require regular baths every 6- 8 weeks. These dogs are compatible with busy owners because they can be left alone.

Daschund

The dachshund is a German dog more famously known as the sausage dog, is a short-legged dog with a long body. This hound breed is clever, playful, devoted, stubborn, courageous, independent, and lively. They are also easy to train and are very eager to learn with positive reinforcement and of course, rewards. This breed requires a minimum of 1 hour of exercise a day and smooth-haired daschunds require very minimal amounts of grooming because of their short fur. These dogs are easy to care for and are considered one of the most low-maintenance breeds which are perfect for busy owners.

Maltese poodle

The Maltese poodle can be traced back to ancient Greece and ancient Rome. They were once the size of a squirrel due to “improvements” done by breeders in the 17th and 18th centuries. Their temperament is gentle, intelligent, affectionate, trusting, and responsive which makes them easy to train. These dogs need about 40 minutes of exercise per day which can be split into two 20 minute walks. You should groom your Maltipoo every 2 – 3 weeks because they have a lot of hair that grows fast. They can be left alone but not for too long because they can become destructive.

Boston terrier

The Boston terrier is a breed native to the US and they are friendly, lively, and intelligent. Their intelligence makes them easy to train with consistency. You’ll need to provide at least some exercise per day but be sure to not let them exercise in the heat because they are prone to overheating. They do require regular grooming and bathing and can be left alone for up to 8 hours which makes them ideal for busy owners.
