The Roskamp Institute is pleased to announce Maxwell Eisenbaum’s graduation from their Neuroscience Ph.D. Program. Dr. Eisenbaum is from New York and previously obtained two Master’s degrees, in Biomedical Engineering and in Neuroscience, from the University of Buffalo. He joined the Roskamp Institute as a Research Assistant in 2017 and began his Ph.D. research in April 2018.
Dr. Eisenbaum’s graduate project, with supervisors Drs. Corbin Bachmeier and Joseph Ojo, investigated the role of the brain vasculature in the pathology observed following Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). His research on the contribution of the cerebrovasculature to the progression of brain pathology following TBI was recently published in the scientific journals Neurobiology of Disease and Fluids and Barriers of the Central Nervous System. Dr. Eisenbaum will remain at The Roskamp Institute as a Scientist I to continue his research.
“We are incredibly proud of Max and this tremendous achievement. His contributions to The Roskamp Institute are advancing our understanding of the pathobiology of TBI. This will ultimately help us achieve our goal of discovering better treatments for those suffering from this type of injury”, said CEO Dr. Fiona Crawford. “We are delighted that he plans to stay at Roskamp to continue this important work”.
The Roskamp Neuroscience Ph.D. Program began in 2009 and has now graduated 16 students, with many graduates continuing their research at the Institute. Doctoral students work side by side with Institute scientists from the outset, performing hands-on, laboratory-based research on Institute projects, and develop into accomplished scientists during the course of the program. Current students are working in the areas of Traumatic Brain Injury, Gulf War Illness, and Alzheimer’s Disease.
About Roskamp Institute:
The Roskamp Institute is on a mission of discovery to lessen the burden of those suffering with neurological disorders. We conduct scientific research on neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Gulf War Illness, and Red Tide, with the goal of identifying better treatments and diagnostics, serve patients and their families in our full-service neurology clinic, and educate the next generation of scientists with our Ph.D. program.
