(February 1, 2022) Elizabeth Goodwill and Barbara Gerdeman, two artists and art educators who launched Creative Liberties to empower regional artists, recently announced three upcoming events at the Creative Liberties Artist Studios, 901-B Apricot Avenue, Sarasota.
Friday, February 18, 5:30-8 p.m. “Wine & Design—A pARTy!” (because you can’t spell party without “art”!) “You can’t spell party with ‘art,’” says Gerdeman. She invites the public to enjoy wine and lite bites at 5:30 p.m. and then make “fabulous art projects” with Creative Liberties’ studio artists, including Sandy Koolkin, (acrylic fluid paint pouring); Traci Kegerreis (hand-painted wine glasses); Barbara Gerdeman (mini acrylic paintings); and Elizabeth Goodwill (arm knitting). $10 per person. Saturday, February 26, 10 s.m.-4 p.m.: “Arts & Crafts. This free, family-friendly event features craft beer for the adults by homebrewer Ray Spicochi; crafts for the kids at the DIY tent; grilled cheese sandwiches from the Big Blue Grilled Cheese Food Truck —and plenty of art by studio artists and artisan vendors.
Friday, March 18, 5:30-7:30 p.m..: “Roaring 20’s pARTy” Open Studio. Have fun at a speakeasy-style party with password only available to Instagram followers (@creativelibertiesfl). Wear Roaring Twenties-style attire and BYOT (bring your own tea cup to sip 1920’s-era cocktails (gin fizz, anyone?) while viewing art by studio artists—at a 20 percent discount for select art that night. Shhh….mum’s the word!
Nine artists have made the Creative Liberties Artist Studios their artistic workspace. These include: Elizabeth Goodwill (book art, fiber art and mixed media); Barbara Gerdeman (photography, acrylic painting, and mixed media); Donna Bergman (collage and mixed media); Lisa DiFranza (acrylic painting, gouache, and mixed media); Traci Kegerreis (acrylic painting, collage and mosaics); Deena King (mixed media painting); Sandy Koolkin (acrylic fluid painting, watercolor and fiber art); and Judy Levine (jewelry design, collage and photography). “Our studio spaces are filled now,” Gerdeman explains, “But we’re accepting applications for the future.”
Co-founder Gerdeman says she and Goodwill are delighted to have brought their dream to reality.
“Our motto is ‘Artists Helping Artists,’” she says. “And that’s exactly what we do. We provide opportunities for artists of all levels to get exposure and sell their work in a safe, supportive community space with an online and social media presence.”
Goodwill adds that their artistic services include assistance with social media, website design, public relations, marketing, pricing artwork, working with galleries, helping with shipping sold pieces, and more. She notes that, “We even offer supportive guidance on overcoming creative blocks.”
