MJ Morning Show host Todd “MJ” Schnitt serves as Grand Marshal, fan favorite Jerry Springer returns as a special guest
TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2022) – The 2022 Krewe of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, presented by MOR-TV and co-sponsored by the City of Tampa, returns to historic Ybor City on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022. The illuminated parade will feature notable radio personality Todd “MJ” Schnitt as Grand Marshal.
“MJ is an icon on local airwaves, and he has a passion for Tampa, which the Krewe shares through the Knight Parade,” said Ken Willis, Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago member and 2022 parade chairman.
Schnitt debuted as morning show host in Tampa Bay in 1992, and his morning show dominated local market ratings for years before expanding regionally. He launched The Schnitt Show in 2001, and he held the distinction of hosting two different top-rated drive time shows in Tampa before the morning show ended in 2012. MJ Morning Show returned to local airwaves in 2020, and the show broadcasts live on Q105 weekday mornings, 6-10 a.m. His nationally syndicated The Schnitt Show broadcasts live 3-6 p.m. weekdays from NewsTalk 1010 AM.
In addition, MOR-TV personality, cultural and civic icon, and fan favorite Jerry Springer returns as a special guest at the 2022 Knight Parade.
“Jerry Springer shares the strong commitment to giving back to the community that MOR-TV and the Krewe members have. MOR-TV is thrilled to continue our partnership with the Knights of Sant’ Yago for this fun, family-friendly Knight Parade in Ybor City,” said Pam Barber, President and General Manager of MOR-TV
Springer’s notoriety is due in large part to hosting his eponymous show for over 27 seasons. The chant, “Jerry, Jerry, Jerry,” is permanently embedded in pop culture, and it can be heard along the parade route when he is a special guest. Springer moved from stage to bench with the launch of “Judge Jerry” in 2019. The syndicated, small-claims court show takes on actual cases from real people in a half-hour. In each episode, Judge Springer hears cases and renders a verdict with a fair yet firm hand and always leaves litigants with a dose of classic Springer wisdom. “Judge Jerry” can be seen weekday mornings at 6 and 6:30 AM and the original “Jerry Springer Show” can be seen weekday mornings at 9 & 11 AM on MOR-TV. MOR-TV can be seen over the air at 32.1 and on cable on Spectrum 12, Frontier Fios 12, DirecTV 32, Dish Network 32, and Comcast 12/437.
In addition to Springer’s work in entertainment, he has also been a lawyer, the mayor of Cincinnati, award-winning newscaster, author, Broadway actor, executive producer, ballroom dancer, podcast host and much more over the course of his career.
The 2022 Knight Parade begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12 as illuminated floats roll down Seventh Avenue in historic Ybor City. The floats are accompanied by dozens of marching bands, local dignitaries and thousands of participants as they throw scores of beads to an expected 100,000 spectators.
This year, spectators can expect to see official beer sponsor Pirate Republic Brewing Company during the parade. Based in Nassau, Pirate Republic Brewing Company is the leading craft brewery of The Bahamas, and its popular beers became available in Tampa Bay in July 2021.
“We are thrilled to be the official beer of the 2022 Knight Parade sharing our amazing beer while supporting the traditions and heritage of the Tampa Bay area,” said Alan Willner, CEO for Pirate Republic.
Proceeds from the Knight Parade benefit the Krewe’s Education Foundation, which has provided nearly $3 million in higher education scholarships since it was established in 1994. Each year, the Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago Education Foundation awards scholarships to deserving students at local colleges and universities, including USF.
