Who Are The Los Angeles Rams?
Super Bowl 2022 is getting ever closer, and as it does, we are all thinking about the potential result. We can’t help but think about Super Bowl LVI betting odds, and while we do, we have to look at each team, their play over the years, and over this season.
So, where do the Rams stand in all this? Well, it is no secret that they are not one of the big dogs this year. This year we are looking at the Patriots, Buc’s, Chief’s, Cardinals, and so on as potential Super Bowl competitors.
However, that does not mean that the Rams do not have a chance at a title this year. Let’s take a look at who they are and what their past plays looked like!
Well, the Rams have not won a Super Bowl since 1999, and they have 3 under their belt, with only one (in 1999) being post-merger. They have 7 conference championships (4 post-merger), and 18 division titles, having appeared in 31 playoffs, two of them being in the last few years.
The History Behind The Team.
The Rams started playing in 1936 as a member of the AFL, but soon joined the NFL after. As a new team they lost all but one game in their first NFL season, and then in 1943 they suspended operations due to WWII creating a player shortage
In 1945, they had their first ever winning season, and a victory over the Redskins in the championship game. Three years later, they became the first pro football team to add an insignia to their helmets.
In the 50s, they gained a legendary offense and didn’t have a single losing season between 150 and 1955. In the 60s they did well again thanks to the ‘Fearsome Foursome’, their outstanding defensive line.
They continued into the 70s to play well, with eight consecutive playoff berths in that decade. Their defensive unit helped, and they recorded a minimum of 10 wins per season for seven whole seasons.
In the 80s, they were noted for their ruling attack, led by their offensive lineman and running back. They only failed to qualify for the playoffs three times in that decade, however, they never made it back to the Super Bowl.
In the early 90s, they lacked on field success, winning no more than 6 games per season from ‘90 and ‘94. They moved to Missouri in ‘95, and in ‘99 they made one hell of a turnaround, making it back to the Super Bowl and winning!
Over the years they dipped and while in the 2010s they did improve, they still failed to qualify for postseason. They struggled on the field, and they moved to Los Angeles in 2016.
They broke through during their second season in California, managing to capture a division title and end their 13-year streak with no playoff appearances.
In 2018, they managed to make it back to a Super Bowl, but sadly lost to the New England Patriots in the lowest-scoring game in Super Bowl history at 13-3.
The offense that got them there and granted them success in 2017 and 2018 disappeared in 2019, although they made the playoffs in 2020 and 2021, whether they will make a bid to return to glory is yet to be seen.
How Are The Rams Doing In The 2021-2022 Season?
In this 2021-2022 season, the Rams are posting good stats, and it seems they are trying to make a comeback. They posted 12-5 as their win-loss rate this season. Putting them high up the board of success within the NFL.
This means that it would be likely that despite their ups and downs in the recent years, we might be seeing them at the playoffs. Who knows, we might even see them at the Super Bowl! Let’s wait and see, they may yet surprise us!
