TAMPA, FL – Jan. 14, 2022 – Six University of South Florida alumni aged 35 and younger have been named USF Outstanding Young Alumni in recognition of their exceptional professional and community accomplishments.
This year’s award recipients include an acclaimed photographer-artist; a multi-media journalist and entertainer; a physician-professor; a lawyer on her second career; a leader in virtual video production; and the consul general of El Salvador in New York.
They will be recognized at a special awards ceremony and reception April 7.
Here are USF’s 2022 Outstanding Young Alumni and the USF degrees they hold:
Mark Clennon, Mass Communications ’10 – A photographer and artist, Clennon gained world renown in 2020 with his photo of protesters in New York City. Today, his work is as likely to be viewed in museums as in national publications, including TIME Magazine and The New Yorker, and he’s a sought-after speaker.
Garin Flowers, Mass Communications ’09 – An Emmy Award-nominated former Florida TV news reporter, the onetime USF student body president is now a national reporter for Yahoo News; an on-camera host for Cinemark Theaters; and a journalism professor at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Karim Hanna, Biomedical Sciences ’10 and MD ’14 – Simultaneously an award-winning practicing physician and assistant professor of medicine, Dr. Hanna is responsible for innovative initiatives in both clinic and classroom at USF Morsani College of Medicine.
Lauren Shumate Marcil, Criminology ’10 and MA Political Science ’14 –Following a career as a world-ranked professional tennis player, Marcil now is an associate at corporate law firm Gunster, where she focuses on civil litigation. A Bulls varsity team tennis player from 2008-10, she taught as a Fulbright Scholar in Serbia in 2011-12.
Timothy Moore, Marketing, 2010-12– The co-founder and CEO of Vū Studios, North America’s largest virtual studio network, Moore is a three-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and virtual production industry innovator. He and fellow co-founder, Jon Davila, are recognized thought leaders throughout the industry.
Daniel Erazo Pinto, International Studies ’13 – Pinto has served as consul general of El Salvador in New York since July, providing services for citizens of El Salvador and representing his country in the United States. He previously directed consular affairs for El Salvador in the Dominican Republic and worked for World Vision in San Salvador.
