How to improve your internet connection

September 22, 2021 by Post

There are few things in life more irritating than a bad internet connection. Whether you’re trying to load your emails or watch your favorite show on Netflix, it’s enough to boil your blood. Fortunately, this article has nine useful tips to improve your internet connection.

Check your data cap

Your internet service provider may put a cap on your data, so make sure you check your plan to see how much you get before going over. If you’re using a ton of data and going over your limit, it can affect the quality of your connection.

Reset your router

If your router is old, it can affect your connection. Before purchasing a new router, try resetting your current router and seeing if the problem persists. A simple way to do this is by unplugging the power cable from the back of your modem for 30 seconds and then plugging it back in again. Once you’ve done that, check to see if your internet connection is faster.

Move your router

It may seem ridiculous, but sometimes moving your router can seriously affect the connection. If this happens, try to find a way to eliminate interference by checking out the surroundings and other devices in the house that might be causing it. Once you’ve found the source of interference, move it or get rid of it.

Use Ethernet cables

If you use WiFi, sometimes using Ethernet cables can improve your connection. If you’re using a laptop or other mobile device, try plugging it in with an Ethernet cable to see if the quality improves. Sometimes the WiFi signal can interfere with your internet speed.

Use an ad blocker

If you tend to watch a lot of videos online, an ad blocker can seriously affect your connection speed. Ads take up unnecessary data and sometimes even cause random pop-ups that can interfere with your browsing experience. Make sure you’re using an ad blocker on all of your devices.

Buy a new laptop

You may need to get a new laptop. Some laptops are simply not equipped with the latest technology other devices have for optimal connection speeds. If your laptop is older, it might be time to purchase a new one so you can take advantage of the latest internet technologies designed to give you faster connection speeds. Check out Lenovo.com for some great deals on new laptops.

Check your web browser

Some web browsers can affect your connection, so check your browser before making any changes to your router or other devices. If you’re using Microsoft Edge, for example, it might not have all the latest features that Chrome does. Try switching to a different browser and see if the quality improves.

Use antivirus software

If you’re not using antivirus software, you should download it to make sure your connection is clean. Sometimes viruses can interfere with the speed of your connection, so by making sure you have an antivirus program on all of your devices, you can check for any problems that could be affecting your connection speeds.

Clear your cache

Sometimes clearing your cache can make a huge difference in the quality of your connection. Before you start this process, it’s important to know that any changes will erase your saved browsing history and passwords.
