SHINE & Bayboro Brewing Present Spraycation Day
Kick off the 7th annual SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival on October 16th from 2-11pm at Bayboro Brewing with the release of “Spraycation,” a strawberry, orange, passionfruit ale brewed to support the St. Petersburg Arts Alliance’s award-winning mural festival.
A common colloquialism used by artists who travel to paint, particularly those with a spray can in hand, St. Pete perfectly blends its reputation as a Spring Break destination and a City of the Arts to offer a “Spraycation” all its own from beach to bay. Bayboro Brewing’s fruity and fun Spraycation brew will make its debut as part of this year’s festival. Spraycation Day features locally crafted beer, live tattoo art, vintage cars, live music and a SHINE mural in progress. Bayboro Brewing Company, located at 2390 5th Avenue South, opened its doors at the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020 and quickly emerged as a strong presence in the St. Petersburg craft beer community. “When my wife, Kelcy, and I decided to bring Bayboro Brewing to life, we sought to create a welcoming space that also provides us with an avenue to give back to our community,” says owner James Coleman. “Spraycation was created as an homage to the vibrant art scene in St. Petersburg. We believe the SHINE murals are an intricate part of arts and culture here and we’re honored to have Bayboro Brewing as a mural destination.”
Spraycation Day brings together a variety of street art related subcultures. Outside the brewery, attendees will enjoy a car show featuring kustom low riders and hot rods as well as other vintage cars and motorcycles. In the Bayboro parking lot, catch Los Angeles based artist, Aaron “Woes” Martin, in progress on his SHINE mural. Inside the brewery, live tattooing will be available for walk up appointments on a first come first serve basis. Featured tattoo artists include Jake Von Holzer with Treasure Island Tattoo (@biggreenjesus), Ryan Cullen & Brad Fink (@bludshaker & @bradfink) and Keller (@kellertattoos) with Classic Tattoos, TJ Hal with Foolish Pride Tattoo Co. (@tjhaltattoos), Brain Storm, owner of Urban Ink (@brainthegenius), and Tate Leigh with Above Alpha (@tate_tattoos). An art exhibition featuring local tattoo artists’ studio work will also be on display.
“SHINE is honored to partner with Bayboro Brewing to create Spraycation,” said SHINE Director Jenee Priebe. “It’s a great example of reciprocity between the arts and local business. To see a local brewery, that survived through Covid-19, use their expertise to creatively support us in what we do best, is truly what St. Pete is all about.”
Additionally, the event features live music by Row Jomah, sun dé, The Headtones and the Josh Nelms Project. Bayboro Brewing will be spotlighting Spraycation, while additionally serving their award-winning flagship beers, some exciting seasonal offerings, and other ciders and wines. A complete tap list can be found on their website, www.bayborobrewing.com. Bayboro Brewing also has a full kitchen serving a variety of menu options.
