Tampa, FL – Carrollwood Day School is proud to congratulate the six students named National Merit Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, two CDS students received the distinctions of National Hispanic Scholars and one the National African American scholar.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships that will be offered in the spring. High school juniors entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.
“We are so incredibly proud of this senior cohort. Their exceptional, scholarly performance is truly remarkable. This is the largest cohort of students to be recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in CDS history. This is a testament to their tireless effort in and out of the classroom and speaks volumes of our dedicated faculty and staff who have provided a rigorous platform for their further education. I wait with eager anticipation and excitement as these Patriots’ maneuver through the college admission process and for their future matriculation to higher education.” Drew Guarino, Interim Director of College Counseling
Carrollwood Day School’s college counseling philosophy centers on a five-year developmental program that is designed to deconstruct and demystify what has become a complex process involving many moving pieces. We holistically invest in “slow dripping” information to parents and students as they begin their tenure in the upper school. It is our goal to discover the most competitive match/fit for each CDS student. We are proud to say that 100% of our students have been admitted to a four-year college or university since the first Upper School graduating class in 2009.
