Wilson-Wood Continues Supporting the Child Protection Center

September 2, 2021 by Post

The Child Protection Center, Inc. (CPC) has received a $10,000 grant from the continued generosity of the Wilson-Wood Foundation. This funding will directly support one of the nonprofit’s child abuse intervention programs- the Children and Families Supervised Visitation Program (CFSVP or SVP).

“Supervised visitation plays a critical role in reducing the risk that many victims and their children face when leaving an abusive relationship and attempting to safely navigate custody,” said Doug Staley, the Executive Director of CPC. “Creating services that truly mitigate those risks involves a great deal of planning. The purpose of CFSVP is to provide a neutral, safe place for children to maintain a relationship with both parents that is free from the stresses of anger and conflict between their parents.”

In fiscal year 2019-2020, CFSVP provided 821 visits to families in Sarasota County, who without this program, may not have had the opportunity to maintain or establish a relationship or may have been placed at risk. The following quote from a mother who utilizes the CFSVP services is an example of the impact that CFSVP makes: “I would not have been able to see my son at all for the past 7 years without SVP.” Referrals are accepted from the 12th Judicial Circuit Court and community agencies. Services are provided onsite in Venice and Sarasota.

This funding is a continuation of the long-time support from the Wilson-Wood Foundation, who are celebrated in the community for giving to the underprivileged and providing opportunities for children. “The Wilson Wood Foundation have changed the lives of many vulnerable children in our communities and we are very grateful.”

The Child Protection Center’s mission is the Prevention, Intervention, & Treatment of Child Abuse, as the organization envisions a community where children are safe from abuse and free to thrive. For over 40 years, CPC has been serving Sarasota and DeSoto Counties in the State of Florida, and is accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
