The Former Tampa Bay Lightning CEO
creates Pickleball event for 9/11 anniversary
Billy McGehee, former President and CEO of the Tampa Bay Lightning, is bringing the largest Pickleball event in Pickleball history to St. Petersburg, Florida on September 11, 2021.
The Great American Pickleball Marathon is a one-day, 12-hour live-streaming pro-celebrity event, created to unite the Pickleball Nation of nearly 4,000,000 players, promote the great sport of Pickleball, support The Wounded Blue and pay respect to everyone and everything our nation lost on September 11, 2001.
“September 11, 2001 was a devastating day for all Americans. Our beloved country was changed forever. We lost so many innocent people, but many more would have perished had it not been for the commitment and heroics of our first responders. This year, The Great American Pickleball Marathon is dedicated to a deserving charity that improves the lives of injured and disabled law enforcement officers, The Wounded Blue. The event will be live-streamed from 8am-8pm on September 11, 2021 on Varsity Sports Network from Ferg’s World Famous Sports Bar and Grill in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Players can register at www.bmwopb.com and play from their home courts, helping us reach our record setting one-day goal of 1,000,000 Pickleball players. “I want to honor the brave men and women in blue with an iconic event, from an iconic location, on one of the most iconic days in American history”, said McGehee.
