Boyd Clocks is opening the Museum of Time and a second store in Sarasota. Boyd Clocks has been in business in Tampa since 1944 and is in business because of a pandemic. The Polio Pandemic. My father got Polio in 1949 and it made him change his career path. He wanted to be an engineer and work for Ford Motor Co but he got Polio in his first year of college and would spend the next 66 years in a wheel chair. The United States was not wheelchair friendly in 1949 so he decided to make clocks his profession, something he could do at a bench and not have to travel. Today the staff at Boyd Clocks is 20+ strong between Sarasota and Tampa and I am proud to introduce Mr Jimmy Parks as the on site Master Horologist (clock maker) at the Sarasota location. Also on site, The Museum of Time will take you through the history of timekeeping devices from the 5500 year old Egyptian Obelisks to Stonehenge to the Antikythera Mechanism to one of the oldest clocks in the world on display to the John Harrison story of longitude, clocks at sea, to Einstein and his idea that time is like a fluid fabric to atomic clocks and many things in between. I keep Boyd Clocks going and am opening the Museum of Time to honor my Father who never complained about being stuck in a wheelchair even though I saw first hand how tough it was. Dad volunteered for many things during his life and was an honorable man to look up to. The new Sarasota location is 6573 S Tamiami Trail and phone #941-209-9783. In sincere appreciation, David Boyd Jr
