Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced the reappointment of Rao Musunuru, M.D., and Alvaro Hernandez to the Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC) District Board of Trustees (DBOT).
Dr. Rao Musunuru, of New Port Richey, current vice chair, PHSC District Board of Trustees, has been a member of the PHSC board since 1999. He is a nationally-renowned cardiologist, affiliated with Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Pasco County since 1981. Over the years, he has served as chief of medicine, chief of staff, and chair of the board of trustees for the center’s heart institute. Dr. Musunuru is a past recipient of the Southern Regional Trustee Leadership Award from the National Association of Community Colleges. Dr. Musunuru is reappointed for a term beginning July 12, 2021 and ending May 31, 2025.
Alvaro ‘Al’ Hernandez, of Odessa, is a market vice president for Humana. He is a past member of the PHSC District Board of Trustees and serves on the boards of the Behavioral Health Community Council, Starting Right Now Foundation and Humana’s Bold Goal Community Brain Trust. Hernandez earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in international business from Nova Southeastern University. Hernandez is reappointed for a term beginning July 12, 2021 and ending May 31, 2025.

Beard, Ph.D. “Dr. Musunuru, first appointed to the DBOT in 1999, has chaired the board four times and currently serves as vice chair. His leadership has been instrumental in shaping the College’s growth and development for more than two decades. Mr. Hernandez, also a former board chair, has been actively involved in PHSC community outreach initiatives, including health and wellness programs. We are indeed fortunate for the leadership of both trustees and welcome their continued service on the board.”
These reappointments are subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
