First of its kind for HCA Healthcare Opening December 2021
TAMPA, Florida – July 2021 – HCA Healthcare West Florida Division announced today that a $50 million construction project has begun on the Hospital for Endocrine Surgery, a campus of Memorial Hospital of Tampa, located at 6001 Webb Road. When completed later this year, clinicians at the new 75,000 square foot facility will provide highly specialized treatments and services for endocrine tumors, including thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal tumors and cancers. The hospital was designed, alongside experts, to provide compassionate and efficient care to those patients seeking specialized endocrine surgery.
The Hospital for Endocrine Surgery will offer endocrinologists and other physicians a single center where they can refer their patients with endocrine tumors of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands for surgery, regardless of the complexity. With close proximity to Tampa International Airport, the campus is expected to attract patients from across the state, nation and the globe for inpatient and outpatient procedures.

The new program will include 16 private patient rooms and eight operating rooms supported by 38 pre/post-surgery bays. Significant infrastructure upgrades will support the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal tumor programs, including radiology, nuclear medicine, laboratory and pathology – all with an emphasis on endocrine tumor diagnosis and treatment. Advanced treatments such as radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of thyroid tumors and minimally invasive scarless robotic thyroid surgery will be offered. Endocrine tumors, including thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal can cause significant health issues due to syndromes caused by excessive hormone production or malignancy. Tumors and cancers of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands are often identified on routine lab tests or x-ray scans performed for unrelated complaints, injuries or illnesses. Academic literature suggests that more than 50% of parathyroid tumors and more than 75% of adrenal tumors are underdiagnosed.
