LEESBURG, Fla. (July 9, 2021) – Decorated Mexican-American author, Victor Villaseñor, will be honored as a Difference Maker in the Season 1 finale of Beacon College’s “A World of Difference.” The episode, featuring the 3-time Pulitzer Prize nominee, will air this July.
After years of facing language and cultural barriers, discrimination, and a reading problem that led to a dyslexia diagnosis, Villaseñor dove deeper into his love of art, literature and music. That passion led him to produce nine novels, 65 short stories and overcome rejection – which ultimately culminated in his first published work, “Macho.” Despite obstacles due to severe visual and audio dyslexia —and being told that it was a miracle he could ever read or write — he considers his dyslexia a “saving grace” that allows him to be an original thinker.
Realizing he views the world differently from others, Villaseñor is committed to championing like-minded individuals and encouraging them to embrace their uniqueness. And, reflected in his literary works, speaking engagements and more, Villaseñor establishes themes of triumphing over barriers in both the fictional and real worlds that inspire others to adopt a similar mindset.
Each “A World of Difference” episode examines neurodiversity issues related to learning disabilities experienced from birth to adult years, using compelling storytelling, conversations with experts, viewer Q&As and interviews with successful individuals with learning differences of their own. In each episode, the Difference Maker Award is bestowed upon an individual who has, as the name of the award denotes, made a difference for the learning differences community.
