Pinellas County’s rate is 4.3%, and that compares to the Tampa Bay MSA (4.6%), and Hillsborough (4.6%), Pasco (4.8%) and Hernando (5.6%) counties. The city’s rate was 12.9% one year ago. The reader’s choice poll was conducted over the past several months, asking readers for their favorites in 65 different categories, from auto repair to fine dining. Welcome New Businesses: Pop’s Smoke Shop and Empire Cafe & Lounge Welcome to two more locally-owned businesses that opened in the past month. Pop’s Smoke Shop, 423 S. Pinellas Ave., celebrated with a ribbon cutting in June. The store offers all types of smoking items, including cigars, vapes, and more. Empire Cafe and Lounge opened at 459 Athens St., on the Sponge Docks. The cafe features breakfast and lunch, and is the only restaurant on the Docks that serves breakfast all day long. Tarpon Springs July Events and Festivals Celebrate a full 4th of July weekend beginning with a Sunset Beach concert July 1, and the return of First Friday on July 2. Celebrate 4th of July with a patriotic picnic in Craig Park, and end the day with fireworks that are best seen from Howard Park. Later in the month, sip wine while strolling through the Downtown and Sponge Docks businesses at the always popular Wine Walk.
