TAMPA, FL – Highly regarded Bankruptcy Lawyer and Shumaker Partner Steve Berman will be a panelist at the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop 2021, which will be held at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida from Thursday, July 29, 2021 through Sunday, August 1, 2021. Steve will be sitting on the panel entitled, “Using Technology in Remote Legal Practice During the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond.” The panel will focus on how the use of specific technology can help insolvency practitioners thrive in remote legal practice, with a special emphasis on overcoming practical and ethical issues that arise with clients in remote legal practice.
ABI is the nation’s largest association of bankruptcy professionals, made up of over 12,000 members in multi-disciplinary roles, including attorneys, auctioneers, bankers, judges, lenders, professors, turnaround specialists, accountants, and others. ABI plays a leading role in providing congressional leaders and the general public with non-partisan reporting and analysis of bankruptcy regulations, laws and trends.

A seasoned trial lawyer, he is widely recognized for his solutions-oriented approach that involves working closely with clients to first see the end result and then, map out a plan to get there. He focuses his practice on business bankruptcy litigation, representing creditors, investors, distressed debt lenders, trustees, committees, and business entities litigating disputes in bankruptcy court.
Steve is board certified by the American Board of Certification in both creditors’ rights law and business bankruptcy law and is a member of the Florida, California, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico (federal) bars.
Steve serves on the Board of Directors for the ABI and the American Board of Certification. He works on several committees and task forces for the ABI, including the ABI’s Taskforce on Veterans and Sevicemembers Affairs and routinely volunteers and speaks at seminars. Additionally, he serves as the judge advocate to the Coronado Yacht Club in Coronado, California, and volunteers in providing pro bono bankruptcy and insolvency services and training for United States Navy service members, including Judge Advocate General officers and staff.
