Sarasota, FL — June 15, 2021 — Resilient Retreat today held a wall-signing celebration to replace the ‘Topping Off’ celebration planned due to forecast inclement weather. The last beam of the new Resilient Retreat Center was lifted into place earlier and the wall-signing event took place Tuesday morning, June 15th from 9 to 10:30 AM at theResilient Retreat Center at 13010 Fruitville Road in Sarasota. Two interior walls were signed by supporters, the construction team, architects, designers and local dignitaries for posterity.
Since 2019 Resilient Retreat has treated over 400 trauma victims, including survivors of abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence, first responders, and helping professionals such as teachers and nurses. January 2021 survey results showed that surveyed participants had a 91 percent decrease in missed days of work due to stress, a 36 percent decrease in clinical depression, and over a 40 percent decrease in suicidal ideation.
“We are thrilled to be at the half-way point in building our new facility to serve those impacted by trauma,” said Dr. Sidney Turner, Resilient Retreat Board Chair & Founder. “The need is greater than ever, with a 196% increase in the number of participants we have served due to the rising mental health needs during the pandemic. We look forward to providing one place for free and confidential evidence-based trauma services; a source of hope and healing in our community.”
“The “Topping Off” of our facility is a milestone for Resilient Retreat’” said Lisa Intagliata, Resilient Retreat Executive Director. “As we continue to strengthen the structure of our building, we also continue to strengthen the foundation of our fundraising efforts to not only help with the construction, but to also help us in creating this new model to help those suffering from trauma heal and find their own path to resilience.”
About Resilient Retreat: Resilient Retreat was founded in 2018 to empower survivors of abuse and those that experience trauma in the workplace, like first responders and helping professionals, to thrive through self-care and community. In October 2020, Resilient Retreat began construction on a new 84-acre retreat center at 13010 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34240. Upon completion in 2022 Resilient Retreat will be able to further expand its capabilities and capacity to offer healing services to the community, including modalities like neurofeedback, yoga, meditation, massage, time in nature, gardening and support groups as well as enhancing self- care skills through workshops on healthy cooking, journaling, and other beneficial activities. In addition to the free and confidential day programs currently being offered, once retreat construction is complete, peaceful multi-day retreats focused on healing the entire person will be added to provide participants with the necessary tools to not only survive after trauma, but to thrive.
