SARASOTA, FL – All Faiths Food Bank recently supplied Safe Children Coalition with 100 BackPacks filled with healthy food and nutritious snacks for children in the state care system, to be distributed through Safe Children Coalition (SCC) Emergency Response and Assessment Team counselors and intervention programs. These SCC programs work with families that have current or recent Child Protective Services/Department of Children and Families investigations in order to connect them to community supports, with the ultimate goal of children being able to remain safely in their homes.

SCC’s counselors work together with investigators to determine the needs of the families and connect them directly to providers such as mental health, parenting, substance abuse programs, domestic violence programs, anger management, and others. They also assist families with getting tangible items such as food, furniture, clothing, pest/bug treatments, cleaning supplies and more.

In the 2019-2020 fiscal year, SCC’s Prevention and Diversion programs served 1,044 children in the previous fiscal year through Family Support and 1,127 through Safety Management; the numbers for 2020-2021 already look to be higher than the previous year.
