Sarasota, FL – June 7, 2021 – Resilient Retreat is pleased to invite supporters, press and the public to a Tuesday, June 15th ‘Topping Off’ celebration in which the last beam of the new Resilient Retreat Center will be lifted into place on the roof. The event will run from 9 to 10:30 AM at the Resilient Retreat Center at 13010 Fruitville Road in Sarasota. The brief program begins at 9:30 AM with a ceremonial wall signing by supporters, the construction team, designers and local dignitaries for posterity.
“The Topping Off Ceremony is a significant milestone in the construction progress of our new 18,000 square foot Retreat Center,” said Lisa Intagliata, Resilient Retreat Executive Director. “It commemorates the structural completion of the facility that will provide overnight retreat accommodations as well as day programs on our beautiful property 84-acre property right here in Sarasota.”
‘Topping Off’ is an ancient Viking building ritual which commemorates the last beam placed atop a structure during its construction. ‘Topping Off’ celebrates the construction process and is viewed as the first introduction of the building to the public. It uniquely honors the accomplishments of the construction crew and is reminiscent of old-fashioned barn raising celebrations.
About Resilient Retreat: Resilient Retreat was founded in 2018 to empower survivors of abuse and those that experience trauma in the workplace, like first responders and helping professionals, to thrive through self-care and community. In October 2020, Resilient Retreat began construction on a new 84-acre retreat center at 13010 Fruitville Road, Sarasota, FL 34240. Upon completion in 2022 Resilient Retreat will be able to further expand its capabilities and capacity to offer healing services to the community, including modalities like neurofeedback, yoga, meditation, massage, time in nature, gardening and support groups as well as enhancing self- care skills through workshops on healthy cooking, journaling, and other beneficial activities. In addition to the free and confidential day programs currently being offered, once retreat construction is complete, peaceful multi-day retreats focused on healing the entire person will be added to provide participants with the necessary tools to not only survive after trauma, but to thrive.
