Andrew J. Mayts Elected Chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County

June 6, 2021 by Post

TAMPA, FL – Tampa Partner Andrew J. Mayts, Jr. has been elected Chair of the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. Created by the voters in 1988, the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County is focused on ensuring children are ready to learn, developmentally on track, and in safe and stable families. The Children’s Board is governed by 10 board members of the local community. Five are “ex-officio,” meaning they serve by virtue of the office they hold, including the Superintendent of Schools, a School Board member, the District Administrator from the Department of Children and Family Services, a County Commissioner, and a Dependency Court Judge. The other five members of the Board, including Andy, are Hillsborough County citizens appointed by the Governor of Florida. Andy most recently served as the Board’s Vice Chair in 2020.

“Andy’s deep ties to the community and his commitment to children and families make him uniquely qualified to continue the great work of the Board,” said Executive Director of the Board, Kelley Paris. “The Children’s Board Summer Passport program, which provides high quality summer experiences for children, is a direct result of Andy Mayts desire for all children to have the opportunity to engage in the rich array of programs Tampa has to offer.”

Edwin Narain, Immediate Past Chair of the Board said, “Andy is a proven leader that has a big heart for our community’s children. His passion for ensuring all children are safe, healthy, and ready to learn makes him the ideal person to lead the board. I’m excited about our future.”

Andy is a widely recognized civil litigation lawyer, community advocate, and corporate leader who applies practical experience and seasoned judgment to achieve results. A litigator for over 20 years, Andy’s expansive experience includes representing national banks in state and federal court in numerous trials. On the construction law side of his practice, he has represented owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and general contractors in lien and bond payment claims, defect claims, and equitable adjustment claims. He has represented design professionals, including class action defenses. Andy has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating construction contracts.

Andy has received an AV® Preeminent rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named a Best Lawyer. He is a fellow in the Construction Lawyers Society of America and has been reappointed by the Governor to serve a second term on the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission.
