ForCare Medical Center is an early adopter of New Treatment

TAMPA, Fla. – Non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma) usually occurs repeatedly in the same person, especially if the first cancer occurs at an earlier age. Patients with multiple non-melanoma skin cancers often endure repeated surgery in sensitive and functionally sophisticated areas such as the lips, eyelids, face, hands, ears and scalp.
Long-awaited non-invasive electron-beam therapy soon will be available at ForCare Medical Center in Tampa for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers.
“Electron-beam therapy can replace surgery for these patients in appropriate situations,” said ForCare Medical Center Founder Dr. Seth Forman, explaining that after treatment, patients will be able to resume normal activities immediately. “Patients will not need to stop blood thinners such as warfarin (coumadin), aspirin, Eliquis, Xarelto or others, as they would likely need to if undergoing surgery. Immediately following treatment, patients will be able to play tennis, run, or go back to work without restrictions.”
ForCare Medical Center will be the first dermatology office in Tampa and only the second in the entire country to offer this technology. “We are thrilled to offer this innovative new treatment to our patients,” Dr. Forman said.
With traditional treatment, patients undergo significant pain, and discomfort. These skin cancer patients are often left with noticeable scarring, deformities and functional limitations. Those kinds of wounds may be avoided with Mobetron®, created by IntraOp, the leading innovator in compact electron therapy devices.
While electron therapy may be compared to X-ray based technologies, electron therapy provides uniform and precise treatment, with less dosage to underlying healthy tissue. Older style X-ray treatments continue to penetrate into normal tissue, leaving a trail of undesirable exit dose.
Electron-beam therapy, administered by radiation oncologists at ForCare Medical Center, allows precise depth control and tight borders, especially around sensitive areas such as eyelids, lips and ears.
