SARASOTA, FL – For area high school juniors and seniors considering a music degree, local music school Music Compound recently offered a workshop – with live and virtual options – that offered great insight into a student’s potential college path.
The “Navigating Your College Career” workshop addressed: degree options that are available, such as Classical, Modern and Education as well as best bets for someone interested in working within the industry; audition requirements for each college; audition preparation; networking and follow-up tips; and more. Participants also had the opportunity to meet recent college graduates as well as industry leaders.
Music Compound owner Jenny Compound participated on a panel with other leaders in the field and recent college graduates, including Sarah Glendening, Grace Riordan and Corianne Silvers. Keynote speaker was Jill Polk, a Cardinal Mooney (2015) and Belmont University graduate (2019). Polk studied Commercial Voice-Music Business and currently works as a licensing agent for SESAC.
“Too many students don’t understand that you don’t have to be on stage, front and center, to be successful in the music business – the industry offers a variety of careers that pay well and provide you with the opportunity to do what you love,” said Townsend. “Hopefully, participants in this workshop now better understand their options – and the best pathways to get there, through their study in college – as they consider how to reach their musical dreams.”
