Doug O’Dowd has filed to run for the City of St. Petersburg City Council District 4 seat.
“Following months of encouragement from family, friends and neighbors, I am excited to announce my candidacy for City Council District 4,” said O’Dowd. “I have lived in St. Petersburg for close to 30 years and have seen it blossom from a quiet, retirement community to a thriving business and entertainment hub that is also diverse and welcoming with a ‘Best Cities in the U.S. designation*’.”
Key points that O’Dowd wants to focus on:
1. Affordable housing for the workers that make St. Pete the prosperous city that it is.
2. Infrastructure in support of the continued growth.
3. Creating opportunities for neglected areas of the city.
“It’s imperative that we continue our growth trajectory while we also ensure that our first-responders, teachers, service industry workers and artists have decent, affordable places to live; the city’s infrastructure can continue to support all the new construction and new people and businesses that are moving in; and that there is a focus on job training, job placement and educational opportunities for all of St. Petersburg’s citizens. We have the ability to continue our progress if we include everyone!”
Doug O’Dowd has owned several small businesses in St. Petersburg as well as holding numerous accounting and finance positions with his current tenure as a consultant for a Private Equity firm. He received his Bachelor of Science and Master’s in Accounting from the University of Florida. Having held several board seats for local charities, he currently is a board member for the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association (HONNA) and Finance Chair for Christ UMC. He is married and has two college-aged sons.
