All sports clubs across the globe are faced with something of an uphill take in the months and years ahead, and that is of course to recover from the devastating effects they have all suffered brought on by the pandemic.
It is the financial effects of the lockdowns that have of course sent many a club owner into a panic, for their finances have taken a massive knock, and it is a sad fact of life that unless they all manage to get things back on track moving forward, many of them may go to the wall, which is something no fan wants to see happening to their favourite team or club.
Let me look at what financial downturns have affects most if not all sports club owners in the last year. Well, it is certainly the case that advertising revenues are non-existent for many clubs right now.
I’ve asked Adrian Sterne from top10sportsbettingsites, who is considered by many to be a leading light in sports advertising, which business sectors have massively reduced their advertising budgets recently, and he told me that sports betting sites have stopped their advertising with many football clubs especially, but that may be a trend that will come to an end sooner rather than later once sport returns to some form of normality.
Other businesses that once had no problem whatsoever sponsoring sporting events such as Rugby matches, Golf Tournaments and even Horse Racing, have also pulled their sponsorship of those types of sporting events, and may continue to do so until those businesses recover themselves.
Ticket sales are of course also non existent too, however with many lockdowns ending or about to end it is hoped that many sports clubs will be able to recover some ground regarding ticket sales and will soon be able to pack their stadiums and ground soon.
The bills of course never stop coming in and some football teams may be faced with some difficult decisions to make in the months ahead, and that could see some of them having to sell off their star players to raise some much needed funds to survive. Television companies may also renegotiate their contracts too, in the hope they get to lower their outgoings when it comes to them televising some live sporting events.
Government Backed Loans Available to Sports Clubs
There has been a lot of help for all business owners from many Governments around the globe over the last year to help them survive and that help has of course in most cases been made available to owners of sports clubs around the globe too.
I think it is fair to say that the Governments of the world that introduced a furlough scheme to ensure small and large business owners could at least pay their staff rather than having to sack them or lay them off have been praised widely for launching such schemes.
Some business owners including those who own sports clubs have taken out Government backed loans to help them survive during the pandemic, and it is certainly true to say those loans have been taken up and out by a huge number of business owners and sports club owners.
However, even though many of those loans came with some tiny interest rates and some favourable terms too, they do need paying back at some point in time moving forward, and being Government backed loans there is the very real risk that those business that do not survive are going to end upcosting their respective country’s taxpayers dear.
Fans Need to Help Out
I know that we have all had it tough over the last year or so, and we have all missed watching our favourite teams, however as we will soon be able to start watching them again as things finally and not before time get back to normal, you can help your favourite team out.
The way you can help is of course by getting yourself out and about and watching them play, the support you can give your team through the cost of the tickets you buy to attend their upcoming events cannot be underestimated and every penny really will be helping them as things get back to the way they used to be.
