ORLANDO, Fla. (March 18, 2021) — The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green projects and local governments in the state, has announced the application deadline for its statewide scholarship program created for deserving students pursuing careers in the green built environment or related sustainability studies.
In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green building standards tailored specifically to Florida.
Celebrating its 21st year, the non-profit FGBC has certified over 25,000 projects “Florida Green” since being founded. Scholarships like this, now in its fifth year, promote educational opportunities for individuals to build successful construction careers within the green building industry.
This year FGBC will be offering three $1,000 scholarships. Applications are due by April 15, 2021 for the 2021-2022 academic year. Finalists will be announced in the Spring.
“This is a great opportunity for the prospective next generation of green building and sustainable professionals in Florida. We see it as our role to encourage Florida’s youth to pursue careers in sustainability,” said FGBC President Bill Kachman. “The scholarship program is part of the FGBC mission to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through community outreach, industry education and certification programs.”
Each award recipient will also receive a complimentary FGBC membership for one year and invited to participate on FGBC committees and events.
