
Medalla Light, the best-selling beer in Puerto Rico, announced today the launch of the innovative “The Sound of Home” campaign, which will remind its consumers of nostalgic memories of the Island of Enchantment. In select markets in the United States, the public will now be able to hear the unique song of the coqui, a tiny and iconic amphibian native to the Caribbean island. To achieve this, Medalla Light captured the sound of their song through the use of an electronic device, which will be located on floats at the establishments where the award-winning beer is distributed.
This campaign initially began in Florida in 2020, the first state where the Puerto Rican beer was exported. Thanks to its great public acceptance, the company decided to expand to Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and New York, where there is a large concentration of Puerto Ricans.
“We are very excited to continue bringing the flavor of Medalla Light to more Puerto Ricans residing in the diáspora. Not only did we want to launch the product to new markets, but we decided to do it in a way that reminds them that wherever they hear the sound of the coqui, there will also be Medalla Light,” stated Jorge Bracero, chief marketing officer of Cervecera de Puerto Rico, the company that produces Medalla Light.
This video, captured with hidden cameras in an establishment in Reading, Pennsylvania, managed to capture the reactions of some of the Puerto Rican customers and the feeling and nostalgia produced when hearing the song of the coqui.
Medalla Light began its export to the U.S. in Florida in 2018. Today, it can also be found in the states of Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. Growth plans will continue in 2021 to continue uniting Puerto Ricans in the U.S. with their favorite beer.
