We have American football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey and… recently even soccer that is fighting for the top positions in the popularity charts within the US. Talking of popularity, soccer as World’s #1 sport is still far below American football or basketball, balancing between positions #4 and #6 here in the States. Many soccer experts believe that the missing promotion and relegation system in the soccer league system pyramid is a big hindrance for the sport taking the front seats. We at Tampa Bay Newswire believe that soccer will never be number 1, but this is just a prediction based on moods and feelings. Moods will for sure change after we see some decent international results of any Major League Soccer club or the National team.
Have you heard of Rowdies?
Established in 2008, based in St. Petersburg’s downtown waterfront in Florida, Tampa Bay Rowdies is an American soccer team that gradually rose to fame in 2017. The team jumped to the USL Championship and made its leading competitors take them seriously. With 53 points and a record of 14-11-17, the team propelled into the playoffs finishing 5th in the Eastern Conference.
What to expect from Rowdies in the future?
Recently, the team managers are busy strengthening their team by including underrated but potential-driven players. The head coach Neill Collins mentions that they are delighted to have signed Jordan Adebayo Smith to a one-year deal. Smith is expected to add something different to the team with his directness, raw vigour, and top form pace on the field. Smith adds that the
“Rowdies have an amazing fanbase, professional coaches, brilliant players and I am looking forward to bringing as much as possible to the team in 2021.”
Team Rowdies is also excited to bring another hungry and young player to the squad – Matthew Srbely. He has checked many boxes for us including his experience of the USL and undoubted potential. He is expected to add a different dimension to the midfield with his talent and creativity in the third. Srbely, obviously excited to be a part of the team, maintains that
“He is looking forward to bringing victories and trophies to the fans.”
2020 was a tough year, but with the vaccinating effort in 2021 we see some light at the end of the tunnel. For those who are going to to make it out of it will things never be the same again. Some of us will become weaker and some of us stronger. The same goes for sports and many football (sorry, I meant soccer) fans are asking: Will Tampa Bay Rowdies win the title? All I can say is that the chances are decent. There are 5 teams of a similar strength in the USL Championship and we predict the probability being around 20%.
Go support Rowdies
Tampa Bay Rowdies are scheduled to play some friendly games from March 20 to April 24 against South Georgia Tormenta FC, Inter Miami CF, Nashville SC, New York Red Bulls, TBD and University of Tampa.
The team has been through lots of ups and downs in its short journey. Team’s latest news suggests there is a great chance of an “up” period ahead. The fans are thrilled to see their team winning many more victories and celebrate its moment of coming to fame. While their competitors are quite apprehensive of their next move, healthy competition sustains. Even their competitors don’t fail to acknowledge their efforts.
