SARASOTA, Fla. (March 10, 2021) – Karen A. Holbrook, regional chancellor of the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus, has been appointed to board positions at several prestigious local, national and international organizations, including Blake Medical Center in Bradenton. “It is a privilege to serve on the Blake board of trustees locally, and on the boards of organizations that are dedicated to the future of education internationally,” said Holbrook. “I hope to contribute to the continued success of these outstanding organizations.” Holbrook also has been appointed to the international advisory board of the Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd Center for Futuristic Studies at Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, and as chair of the Institute of International Education (IIE) Board of Trustees’ advancement committee. The IIE is a New York City-based educational advocacy organization for which she has served on the board since 2005. Holbrook has a long history of board appointments and special assignments, including many related to international education. In addition to serving on the IIE’s board of trustees, she serves on the boards of CRDF Global, an organization dedicated to providing flexible logistical support, program management and strategic capacity building programs in higher education, and Keypath Education, a company that serves students in the U.S. and around the world by developing and delivering career-relevant online post-graduate programs at leading universities. She also is a distinguished fellow of the Global Federation of Councils of Competitiveness.Before becoming regional chancellor, Holbrook served as executive vice president at the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus and senior advisor to the president of USF (2013-16) after a one-year stint as interim president of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (2013). She previously served as USF’s senior vice president for global affairs and international research (2010-12), senior vice president for research, innovation and global affairs (2007-10), and was the developer of USF World.Holbrook initially came to USF after serving as president of The Ohio State University (2002-07); senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia; vice president for research and dean of the graduate school at the University of Florida; and associate dean for research and professor of biological structure and medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
