SARASOTA, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2020) — The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods, an independent and assisted living community in Sarasota, partnered with CVS Clinic to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to residents, associates and essential caregivers January 15-16. All of the community’s assisted living residents received the vaccine, which will protect them against the deadly COVID-19 virus. In addition, 55 independent living residents received the first dose of the vaccine.
“Our residents have been waiting a long time for this vaccine and we are so thrilled that we were able to offer it to them so soon after it was approved,” said Peggy Beasley, Executive Director at The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods. “Having extra doses available to offer our independent living residents was also such a welcome surprise.”
The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods made the Pfizer vaccine available to its independent and assisted living residents, as well as associates, essential caregivers and compassionate caregivers. The community will hold two more vaccine clinics in February, administering the second dose of the vaccine as well as the first to those residents who have not received it.
According to state guidance, independent living residents will be vaccinated during phase 2 of the vaccine rollout, which is said to be later in the first quarter of 2021. The Fountains will offer the vaccine to independent living residents on February 6.
“I felt so lucky to be offered one of the extra doses of the vaccine, I thought about buying a lottery ticket,” said resident Tom Hosted. “I could just imagine my family cheering from their homes.”
Assisted living resident Betty Bradich said she cannot wait to go out to a nice dinner and hug her great grandchildren after she receives the second dose.
Throughout the pandemic, The Fountains has adhered to strict safety protocols and followed best practices from federal and state authorities. The community’s established protocols of rigorous cleaning and disinfection processes are conducted throughout public areas in our communities including dining rooms, libraries, elevators, salons and lobbies. Safeguards include detailed procedures for housekeeping and laundry.
“Throughout the pandemic, our community has adhered to strict safety protocols and followed best practices from federal and state authorities to protect our residents,” said Beasley. “The vaccine rollout is the latest layer of protection that we are offering our residents, and we are so thrilled that it is here.”
