St. Petersburg, Florida – (January 22, 2020) – St. Petersburg General Hospital’s Family Beginnings program offers expectant and new parent families a wide range of classes to prepare for their new role. The hospital has expanded their offerings to include a new Big Brother/Sister in Training and Grandparents Class. Masking, social distancing and proper hand hygiene will be practiced in all in person classes and reservations can be made by calling (727) 741-4055 or registering online at St.PeteGeneral.com. All classes will be held in the hospital’s Auditorium B at 6500 38thAvenue N, Suite 320. Classes available include the following:
Breast Feeding Support Group
Friday, Feb. 5 & March 5 | 10:30 – 11:30 am
Designed for expectant big brothers and sisters, ages 2.5 to 12, this class is taught by a certified nurse educator and designed to smoothly transition siblings to the birth of a new baby. Topics include discussion of the life of the unborn baby, what to expect from a newborn and much more. The class includes a look at the nursery and the Mother’s room.
Grandparents Class
Sunday, March 7 | 2 – 5 pm
Led by a certified nurse educator, this class covers a wide range of topics to bring expectant grandparents up to speed on the latest in childbirth preparation and infant care. Infant safety is a key focus and the class includes a tour.
Newborn Care Class
Tuesday, February 9 & March 9 | 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Spend an enjoyable evening learning baby care basic. Topics covered include newborn characteristics, growth, development, infant safety and the joys of parenting.
Obstetrics OB and Delivery Preview Tour
Tuesday, February 16 & March 23 | 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Here participants will learn about our obstetrics services and meet our skilled nursing staff. Join us as we tour the Birthing Center – and be sure and bring your support person to tour with you.
Preparing for Breastfeeding Class
Saturday, February 6 & March 6 | 12:30 – 3:30 pm
A one-time class focused on successful breast feeding. This course is devoted to Mom and her support person to promote a positive breastfeeding experience both in the hospital and after going home. This class is taught by a certified Lactation Consultant.
Prepared Childbirth Class
Saturday, February 20 & March 20
This course covers the latest techniques to prepare you for your childbirth experience. Your instructor if a Lamaze certified RN, ICEA Certified and prepared with labor and delivery experience. Class content includes labor and delivery, relaxation and breathing, pain management, coping with unexpected events, and the immediate post-partum period. Participants should bring their support person and wear comfortable clothes for floor exercises, avoiding dresses and skirts.
