ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Jan. 11, 2021) – University of South Florida President Steven C. Currall today announced that St. Petersburg campus Regional Chancellor Martin Tadlock has decided to transition out of the regional chancellor role and back to a faculty position in the USF College of Education, effective Dec. 31, 2021.
“It has been an honor to lead USF’s St. Petersburg campus as regional chancellor, but the time is right for a change,” Tadlock said. “I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to President Currall for his generous support for my decision. He graciously offered to extend my contract further but I thought it was a good time for this move. I’m looking forward to a more flexible schedule that will allow LaRae and me the opportunity to spend precious time with children and grandchildren. The outlook is bright on our campus and I feel fortunate to work with so many incredible colleagues to create a better future for our students.”
In addition to spending more time with family, Tadlock also cited other factors in his decision, including the opportunity for a new leader to help oversee the multi-year development and implementation of proposed academic clusters on the St. Petersburg campus and the hope of having a new regional chancellor in place when in-person operations more fully resume on campus after the COVID-19 vaccine rollout is complete.
Tadlock was named regional chancellor at the St. Petersburg campus in August 2018 after serving as interim chancellor since September 2017. He previously served as St. Petersburg campus regional vice chancellor for academic affairs.
“As regional chancellor, Dr. Tadlock led a comprehensive approach to increasing student success, including programs to increase retention rates, an important metric in sustaining the University of South Florida’s leadership in performance-based funding. He also collaborated closely with colleagues across the university to enhance the campus experience for students. The project to build and open the beautiful new Osprey Suites residence hall is a shining example,” Currall said. “I thank Dr. Tadlock for his contributions, and I am grateful for his commitment to helping to ensure continuity and a smooth transition in leadership for the USF St. Petersburg campus and community over the next few months.”
Currall announced that a search for a new regional chancellor will begin later this spring.
