Tampa, Florida (December 9, 2020) – Red Rover, launched by the founder of PODS in early 2020 and headquarted in Tampa, Florida, announced the opening of its second market in Long Island, New York. The first location is a 20,000 square-foot, climate-controlled storage facility located near the Woodside Club at 225 Underhill Boulevard, Syosset, New York. The company is actively looking for additional locations.
Red Rover developed and launched a new category in the marketplace known as Fetchable Storage® with the goal of providing customers with a more affordable moving and storage option. Red Rover’s Fetchable Storage offers customers a portable storage unit, pre-loaded onto a truck, that the customer picks up and drives for free. Then the storage unit is stored in one of Red Rover’s state-of-the-art, climate-controlled storage facilities. If the customer is moving out of the market, Red Rover takes care of the transportation between their locations. With the opening of this facility in Long Island, Red Rover can now move people from New York to Florida.
The company was designed so that the customer has minimal, if any, contact with people, aligning with current consumer trends due to Covid. All information is gathered online and/or over the phone, there is no “counter” when a customer goes to collect their truck and the trucks and containers are brand new and sanitized between every use.
“Close to 1000 New Yorkers a day are moving to Florida,” said Peter Warhurst, CEO and founder of Red Rover. “Our move into the Long Island market just made good business sense and it doesn’t hurt that I grew up in the Long Island area. I am excited to see us expand the company in my hometown and to begin offering long distance moving capabilities to our customers. ”
A key competitive differentiator for Red Rover is that their customers get to use their truck for free. That includes 60 miles, gas, tolls and a dolly. The customer has from 8am – midnight to fill their container and return the truck. The storage unit is then stored in one of Red Rover’s secure climate-controlled facilities until the customer needs their belongings back. No loading a truck, unloading a truck and reloading belongings into a storage unit.
The trucks include innovative features such as back up cameras, lane departure warnings and a patent pending ramp operated by a remote control so customers don’t have to struggle with lifting and setting up a heavy ramp – it’s literally a push of a button. The ramp provides the ability for back or side loading , which is especially valuable in urban neighborhoods where space is tight.
Red Rover currently has three locations in the Tampa Bay area and plans to develop a national footprint over the next three years beginning with Long Island.
