Eyes in the sky help a local construction advisor group with efficiencies & cost savings

November 23, 2020 by Post

It’s a local company’s specialized tool in building, construction and development. It’s the drone. InVision Advisors, an owner’s representative company,  is using their drones to inspect tall buildings, using them after storms to determine any compromised situations in the building process and just to get an overall assessment of how things look from above.

Drones started as recreational toys and novelties. Add a camera and they’ve quickly become a competitive advantage tool for use for many understanding their true value. With such new technologies companies can embrace them and utilize them for the greater productivity and efficiency of construction projects and developments. The use of drones is one example of how this company can more quickly, efficiently and safely get a bird’s eye view from above.

Jonathan Moore, President of InVision Advisors, says “Drone technology allows us to improve the accuracy and speed of our inspections and find issues that would have previously gone unnoticed.”

It is common for developers / builders to document progress and finished properties with drone photography, but inspection services are more specialized & unique.

Moore says you can’t just buy a drone and start flying it, you need to be a Part 107 Commercial UAS Pilot. He says you need to understand airspace restrictions (there are a TON all over the Tampa Bay Area) and understand the damage a drone can do if you don’t obey the regulations.

Most commercial drone pilots fly drones for a living, Moore is different. He is an Owner’s Representative and ALSO has his Part 107 UAS license. Moore says, “I am an architect AND a commercial drone pilot, so I have a license to fly as well as inspect while I am flying, rather than have a pilot fly and take pictures then give them to the architect.”

Top 5 reasons to use drones:
1.Access to hard to see / reach locations
2.Safety – keep us off ladders and lifts
3.Share / collaborate design solutions easier with high resolution video and photos
4.Speed and regularity of inspections
5.COST – cheaper to do these types of inspections with the right team

InVision Advisors has worked on close to 500 local projects that include the St. Pete Pier, Lutz Prep, Ford’s Garage Restaurant, Bryan Glazer Family JCC & the Tampa Theatre. InVision Advisors oversees, guides and implements construction and development work from start to finish. They’ve used drones on everything from multi-million dollar projects and mansions to internal assessments of high ceilings at local theaters to inspections of a huge boat marina.

Moore goes on to say, “Aerial photography allows us to document construction progress more accurately to provide better insight on schedules, prevent change orders and maintain budgets.” Savings are passed along to the client, so it is truly a win/win.  It is a resource they won’t go without.
