GateauOchocolat, St Petersburg’s signature chocolate dessert returns to the Saturday Morning Market this weekend, November 14 from 9 am to 2 pm at 101 1st St SE near Al Lang Stadium. The chocolate cakes are the creation of former restaurant owner and downtown revival pioneer Emmanuel Roux, a Frenchman. Born in Tunisia, educated in France, the UK and Switzerland, Roux had a rich international career. He now advocates artisanal regional specialty foods and “Good Food” in general. He feels local specialty foods contribute to a sense of place and improve quality of life by adding personality to the community. GateauOchocolat is made only in St Petersburg and enjoyed everywhere by a happy few.
“We look forward to returning to the Saturday Morning market November 14th to reconnect with faithful customers and friends. We shall take holiday orders to be shipped to valuable business clients, good friends, and nice relatives,” said Emmanuel Roux. “Our cakes make great gifts and will grace many holiday tables as a delicious dessert to be enjoyed by all chocolate lovers, even those on a strict gluten free diet”
The initial spark for Roux’s creation happened in a Parisian bistro where he and wife Jennifer tasted an amazing chocolate cake. Back in the states, Roux’s extensive trials and selfless taster friends helped set the final flourless GateauOchocolat recipe resulting in heavenly 100 % gluten free cakes.
Available in 6”, 9” or a 6-pack of mini cakes, GateauOchocolat are topped with toasted almonds as a finishing touch. (No almonds can be specified when ordering) The cakes are shipped from Afghanistan to Hawaii and everywhere in between. Local delivery is available in the St Petersburg area and offered at a few retail stores on both sides of the bay. Coined as “Heaven’s official chocolate cake”, GateauOchocolat is made with just four ingredients: Fresh eggs, butter,100 % single origin Rain Forest Alliance, certified Ecuadorian chocolate (The key ingredient) and cane sugar. The cakes can be frozen without any quality loss. Because they are very intense, a little goes a long way.
