Veteran Real Estate Investors Establish Permanent New Home in St. Pete

November 5, 2020 by Post

Craig Sher and Will Conroy forge the future of Backstreets Capital from their new office on Mirror Lake.

St. Petersburg, FL (November 5, 2020) – Craig Sher and Will Conroy, founders of Backstreets Capital, a family investment company, relocate to a public-facing office with street frontage along Mirror Lake in downtown St. Petersburg.

Sher and Conroy founded Backstreets Capital in Sher’s home office in 2014 but as the firm continues investing in real estate deals around the area, the move to Mirror Lake is meant to demonstrate Backstreets’ commitment to St. Pete.

Making thoughtful investments and establishing long-term partnerships, Backstreets Capital has already built a significant portfolio including: The Salvador and St. James Townhomes in downtown St. Pete, and Icaria on Pinellas, an apartment complex in Tarpon Springs.  Backstreets is also an active partner on Orange Station, the new mixed-use development on the site of the old St. Petersburg Police Department.   Most recently, Backstreets announced a capital investment with Canopy Builders, a high-end custom home builder looking into expand its spec home program.

Conroy is an equity partner at Johnson Pope, a full service regional law firm, and has decades of experience handling a broad range of complex commercial real estate and corporate issues. With Backstreets, he is focused on finding the right partners, “We aren’t just out there doing deals on our own.  We rely on our strategic partnerships to create exciting opportunities. Our hope is to deepen our partnerships by not only investing in specific real estate deals but also corporate structures that enable those deals to happen. We have some very exciting projects in our pipeline.”

Sher is a well-respected and notable business leader, with more than 40 years of experience running and advising successful companies and providing leadership to large and small non-profit organizations.  He remarked on the move to Mirror Lake, “I’ve been doing real estate in town for over 40 years but have never had an office in downtown.  It’s great to take this step with my son-in-law Will and we’re also sharing the office with both of my brother in laws as well.  We’ve got a lot of deals going in St. Pete and I think it’s important we have a public-facing space so people know we are a part of this community too.”
