LAKELAND, FL (October 20, 2020) | The Lakeland City Commission deliberated for approximately 53 minutes that ended with a 6-1 vote naming Shawn Sherrouse as City Manager. The dissenting vote was made by Commissioner Sara McCarley who shared interest in possibly extending the search process. The City of Lakeland started the search for a new City Manager after Tony Delgado retired with 23 years of service.

40TH ANNUAL SWAN ROUNDUP A SUCCESS
In early October, all 84 swans that live on Lake Morton were rounded up and given their annual veterinarian checkup. This annual event happens over two days and is necessary for the health and well-being of these iconic birds. The team at My Pets Animal Hospital proclaimed all members of the flock in good health!

Downtown Parking Changes around Lake Mirror, South Massachusetts and South Missouri Avenue
There are new modifications to the City’s downtown parking that began Monday, October 19th with the most notable changes taking place around Lake Mirror. The City’s parking team recently met with downtown stakeholders and that meeting sparked a planning session with the goal to generate additional parking uses in front of the Joinery, the new Catapult facility and the Lake Mirror Complex.

One week left to participate in the 2020 Red Ribbon Virtual Challenge: September 28 – October 31
InnerAct Alliance and Title Sponsor, Publix Super Markets, in Lakeland, Florida, are proud to continue our community’s Red Ribbon tradition by presenting the 2020 Red Ribbon Challenge in support of substance abuse and bullying prevention. The event, which will be held virtually this year due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19, kicks off on September 28th with Family Day – A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children and ends on October 31st. 
Children in grades K-8 can register for free on the event website RedRibbonRun.com and complete a series of fun weekly challenge activities at home with family and friends over the 5-week period. Challenges are based on elements of healthy living and a different activity will be featured each week during October with themes of Nutrition, Healthy Mind/Healthy Body, Kindness & Tolerance, Help Save The Planet, and Healthy Lifestyle.
