Florida Civic Engagement Group Partners with When We All Vote

September 2, 2020 by Post

St. Petersburg, FL – Women Talk Black proudly announces its official partnership with When We All Vote, a non-profit, non-partisan organization launched by Michelle Obama in 2018. Both organizations are focused on changing the culture around voting and increasing participation in every election..

“The margin of victory in the last four major statewide Florida elections, for the winner has been one percent,” ” said Stephanie Owens, founder of Women Talk Black. “Today, the combination of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and the movement for racial justice have increased interest in voting,” our work is to turn that interest into a registered and active voter.

The partnership is working to ensure that Floridians are ready to vote in 2020 by encouraging people to have a plan to vote. The recommended plan is:
1. Check registration status at https://www.whenweallvote.org/check-registration/ and register, if needed, at https://registertovoteflorida.gov/home.
2. Request a Vote By Mail Ballot at https://www.myfloridaelections.com/contact-your-SOE.
3. Create a “vote squad” to make sure at least five friends or family are also registered and vote.

Voter empowerment is at the core of Women Talk Black’s mission. Launched earlier this year, in collaboration with the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in St. Petersburg, FL, the organization delivers resources and programming to support Black women’s efforts to provide voter education and increase civic engagement.

“Today, we’re partnering on National Poll Worker Recruitment Day. It’s crucial that we help inspire more Floridians to help support this election, “ said Terri Lipsey Scott, Executive Director Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. “Every vote counts and every voice matters,” added Owens. “At Women Talk Black, we want all of our Florida neighbors’ voices to be heard.”
